چکیده
We uncover how to achieve giant Q-factors in finite-length periodic arrays of subwavelength optical resonators. The underlying physics is based on interference between the band-edge mode and a standing array, it leads formation spatially localized states with dramatically suppressed radiative losses. demonstrate this concept for an array N dipoles simultaneous cancellation multipoles up N-th order Q-factor growing as Q ? Intrinsic localized modes in parametrically driven arrays of nonlinear resonators.
We study intrinsic localized modes (ILMs), or solitons, in arrays of parametrically driven nonlinear resonators with application to microelectromechanical and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS). The analysis is performed using an amplitude equation in the form of a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a term corresponding to nonlinear damping (also known as a forced complex Ginzburg-L...
متن کاملOptically pumped subwavelength-scale metallodielectric nanopatch resonators
We discuss subwavelength-scale semiconductor metal-optic resonators placed on the metal substrate with various top metal plate sizes. Albeit with large optical losses, addition of metal layers converts a leaky semiconductor nano-block into a highly-confined optical cavity. Optically pumped lasing action is observed with the extended top metal layer that can significantly suppress the radiation ...
متن کاملEnhanced transmission through arrays of subwavelength holes in gold films coated by a finite dielectric layer
Enhanced transmissions through a gold film with arrays of subwavelength holes are theoretically studied, employing the rigid full vectorial three dimensional finite difference time domain method. Influence of air-holes shape to the transmission is firstly studied, which confirms two different resonances attributing to the enhanced transmission: the localized waveguide resonance and periodic sur...
متن کاملTerahertz scattering by subwavelength cylindrical arrays.
We demonstrate the use of a full-wave electromagnetic field simulator to verify terahertz (THz) transmission-mode spectroscopic measurements of periodic arrays containing subwavelength cylindrical scatterers. Many existing THz scattering studies utilize analytical solutions, which were developed for a single scatterer. For multiple scatterers, a scaling factor equal to the number of scatterers ...
